REASON FOR CONSULTING BEST DOCTORS:
To find out what treatment options would be available to him

Further treatment options explained in the Best Doctors expert report

David was diagnosed with prostate cancer ten years ago after an abnormality showed up in a routine prostate exam. A year later he underwent surgery to have his prostate gland removed. Whilst the surgery proved successful, subsequent tests showed that the cancer was recurring, so he started a course of radiation therapy.

The therapy was successful, but the follow-up tests showed that once again the disease was slowly returning, and his local treating team advised him to embark on an alternative treatment path which appeared to keep the condition under control.

David remained on the same treatment for another year, but as soon as he stopped, the disease started to return. At this point he decided to undergo further surgery on the affected area.

Having tried a number of treatment options, David was informed that he was eligible to take part in a clinical trial which was investigating the effectiveness of a specific combination of drugs. Since starting the trial, David’s cancer was kept under control, however he started to think about the future, and what course of treatment he should take once the trial was over.

The report that I received from the Best Doctors expert was really helpful. It helped me to understand the trial that I am on and explained what I could expect next.

He decided to contact Best Doctors for a second medical opinion, a benefit that was made available to him through his insurance provider.

Following a thorough intake call with the Best Doctors medical team, his medical records and case history were all collected and a leading expert in David’s condition was found.

The Best Doctors expert reviewed David’s case and commented on how well he was doing, explaining that it was encouraging that the clinical trial that he was taking part in was showing good results. In his opinion, the best thing that David could do following the trial would be to have follow-up tests every two to three months to monitor his condition, and further scans should pain arise in any other locations. He went on to recommend the most suitable type of chemotherapy that David could undergo following the trial and explained that his prognosis looked good.

I now have something that I can share and discuss with my treating doctor which is really useful. The report has been really helpful in helping me to decide about my treatment options.

David was very pleased with the Best Doctors report and arranged to share it with his specialist. The fact that the expert felt he should continue with the clinical trial gave him immense peace of mind, and he was also reassured to know what kind of treatment to expect once the trial was over.
